Anti-Christian Events of 2010 Point to Christophobia

A Christian website says their top ten list of attacks on Christian beliefs creates the case for a growing Christophobia problem in the United States. After accepting several submissions, blog DefendChristians.org listed the Top Ten Anti-Christian Events in 2010. The number one event on the list is the use of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act to force faith-based institutions to hire non-believers. Also near the top of the list is the expulsion of two Christian students from their Master's program in counseling for their biblical beliefs about homosexuality. These are examples of a growing phobia toward Christians, said Dr. Gary L. Cass, president and CEO of the Christian Anti-Defamation Commission.

CADC, a non-profit which champions the causes of Christians, is the organization behind the website. "This has been going [on] for years. Seculars and non-believers have been trying to discredit Christ," Cass asserted. And "it’s been getting more intense each year,” he maintained. These assaults on Christians' basic freedoms to freely believe and exercise their faith illustrate a fear of Christianity, he contended. Like most other phobias, Cass said this fear is irrational. "If these same types of actions were taken against other groups, one would call it bigoted," he said. "Everyone says if you oppose homosexuality, you're homophobic. If you oppose Islam, you're Islamophobic. If you oppose Christianity, you're Christophobic," he argued.

The top ten list is meant to highlight to Christians episodes of irrational hate against the faith and encourage them to take a stand, he stated. Second on the anti-Christian events list is California Judge Vaughn Walker's decision to overturn the voter-approved Proposition 8, an amendment that defines marriage as between one man and one woman. "This is clearly a strategy to take away any objection in any place," Cass said. Christians, in many cases, are vindicated by the First amendment of the U.S. Constitution. However, Cass anticipates that secularist and gay rights lobbyists will continue to test the Constitution's bounds.

Top Ten Anti-Christian Events in 2010

We’ve just compiled our Top Ten list of the most anti-Christian acts of 2010 in America. Our poll results demonstrate a clear double standard is being applied against our faith, values and liberty. Every year the list grows as godless, secular values inflame the minds of many against Jesus Christ and Christianity. Although many of the attacks are only rhetorical, now government policies are being imposed that encroach on Christian’s liberty of conscience. While freedom of speech is denied to Christians to proclaim the Truth, radical secular organizations are free to promote their lies. In extreme cases the anti-Christian hatred boils over into violence.

The Top Ten Anti-Christian Events in 2010, according to you, are:

10. 88 Pro-Lifers were arrested for protesting President Obama’s participation at a leading Catholic university, Notre Dame, and await trial for standing up for true Christian values.

9. Southern Poverty Law Center; A liberal ACLU-like organization that has continued to label many Christian organizations that hold traditional values as “hate groups” in lists that include violent racists groups.

8. Larry Girard; Christian journalist fired from his job for sending an e-mail from his personal account on his own time in support of traditional marriage.

7. Stephen Ocean and Tite Sufra; two young men who were murdered in Boynton Beach, Florida while out sharing the gospel in their neighborhood.

6. Chai Feldblum; a liberal law professor and open lesbian, appointed to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Feldblum stated that in any conflict that might arise between religious liberty and homosexual “rights” she would have a hard time coming up with any case in which religious liberty should win; or “Gay’s win; Christians lose.”

5. Michigan Muslims attack AGAIN; Christians attacked, denied their civil rights and falsely arrested for disorderly conduct at a public festival for peacefully sharing the gospel. This happened the previous year, too. They were again acquitted of all charges.

4. Elena Kagan; President Obama’s radical appointment to the Supreme Court bench. While serving under the Clinton Administration, Kagan successfully corrupted unfavorable evidence on partial birth abortion to deceive the Supreme Court.

3. Julea Ward and Jennifer Keeton; two women expelled from their respective Master’s programs in counseling at two different universities because they wouldn’t deny their faith and affirm the validity of the homosexual lifestyle.

2. Vaughn Walker; California judge who overturned Proposition 8, a State Constitutional Marriage Amendment, and the will of the people by making homosexual marriage legal.

1. Employment Non-Discrimination Act; a proposed federal bill that would force ministries to hire people who oppose their beliefs or who live in open defiance of their values.

Ga. School Forces Christian Student to Alter Beliefs to Graduate

By Nathan Black Christian Post Reporter

An Augusta State University student filed suit after she was told to change her Christian beliefs or otherwise be expelled from the school's graduate counseling program. "A public university student shouldn’t be threatened with expulsion for being a Christian and refusing to publicly renounce her faith, but that’s exactly what’s happening here," said David French, senior counsel with the Alliance Defense Fund. "Simply put, the university is imposing thought reform." Jennifer Keeton, 24, has been enrolled in the College of Education's School Counselor masters degree program since fall 2009. She has expressed her Christian beliefs in class discussions and written assignments, but it was her views regarding gender and sexuality that irked faculty.

According to the filed complaint, "She has stated that she believes sexual behavior is the result of accountable personal choice rather than an inevitability deriving from deterministic forces. She also has affirmed binary male-female gender, with one or the other being fixed in each person at their creation, and not a social construct or individual choice subject to alteration by the person so created. Further, she has expressed her view that homosexuality is a 'lifestyle,' not a 'state of being.'" In May, Keeton was notified that she would be asked to participate in a remediation plan. Mary Jane Anderson-Wiley, an associate professor who also oversees student education and discipline, explained that the faculty wanted to see Keeton's writing skills improve and that they are concerned with some of her beliefs and views pertaining to GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender) issues.

Several faculty members later met with the student and told her that they considered her to be failing to conform to certain professional standards. In a written Remediation Plan, the faculty said her speech on GLBT matters violated the codes of ethics that counselors and those in training are required to adhere to. Keeton's views "depart from what 'the psychological research about GLBTQ (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer/questioning) populations asserts' that that 'sexual orientation is not a lifestyle or choice, but a state of being,'" faculty members said. The Remediation Plan required that Keeton attend workshops on diversity sensitivity training toward working with GLBTQ populations, work to increase exposure and interaction with gay populations by attending such events as the Gay Pride Parade in Augusta, and read more on the topic to improve counseling effectiveness with GLBTQ populations.

Failure to complete all elements of the remediation plan will result in dismissal from the Counselor Education Program, according to the plan. Keeton told faculty members, "I can’t alter my biblical beliefs, and I will not affirm the morality of those behaviors in a counseling situation." But she stressed, "I understand the need to reflect clients’ goals and to allow them to work toward their own solutions, and I know I can do that." When Keeton asked why her biblical ethical views would disqualify her competence as a counselor, Anderson-Wiley at one point responded, "Christians see this population as sinners." Though Keeton stated that all people are sinners, including herself, Anderson-Wiley told her that she had a choice of standing by the Bible or by the American Counseling Association Code of Ethics. Keeton chose the Bible. "Abandoning one’s own religious beliefs should not be a precondition at a public university for obtaining a degree," ADF's David French contended. "This type of leftist zero-tolerance policy is in place at far too many universities, and it must stop. Jennifer’s only crime was to have the beliefs that she does."

And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; buy receive power as kings one hour with the beast. These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.

(Rev. 17:12-13)
