…if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken? When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD,

if the thing follow not, nor come to pass,

that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken,

but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him (Deut. 18:21-22).

At the end of his “predictions” interview Robertson claims, “If there is a mistake it’s not His (the Lord’s) fault, it’s mine.” Anyone who has ever read the Bible knows this is not how a true prophet of God speaks. A true prophet of God says “Thus saith the Lord.”  A true prophet of God says the LORD said it was going to happen and there is no mistake about it. The true prophet of God did not give himself a way out because he was not sure if his prediction was going to pass or not. A true prophet of God knew what God said was going to happen and no back-peddling allowed.

Last year Robertson (see Pat Robertson: False Prophet) implied that God informed him who will be elected president in November. "He told me some things about the election, but I'm not going to say, because some old man on "60 Minutes" would make fun of me, so I'm not going to tell you who the winner's going to be," Robertson said, an apparent reference to CBS humorist Andy Rooney. Again, that is not how a prophet of God speaks. The man of God does not say he is not going to say what God told him because some atheist is going to make fun of him. That sounds more like a man who is deceiving people with false predictions in order to keep ratings up and the money pouring into the collection plate.

One will notice Roberson’s “predictions” which come closest to being “fulfilled” are ones of economic conditions. However, on closer examination many godless economic advisers were predicting the same prophecies and at the very same time the markets were heading in the direction of the predictions anyways. Anyone could have seen before the start of this year (way before Pat's revelations) the US was heading towards socialism. The US government was buying stock in major banking firms and auto firms (socialism bordering on fascism). This was even before Pat made his predictions. What Pat-the-false-prophet is doing is studying world conditions leading up to his prayer retreat visions. He then claims God told him what was going to happen. Most of his predictions are false. The visions closest to happening are already taking shape anyways, months before he foretells his revelations. Many others were claiming the same generic possibilities as Pat, months beforehand.

One example for this year is his prediction for Israel, “…Israel will be in extreme crisis.” Well, yeah, because before Pat made his prediction Israel was bombing Gaza and ready to invade the strip of terrorist land. Hezbollah was on Israel’s northern border armed to its teeth with Iranian, Russian, and Syrian weaponry. These types of generic “visions” are very predictable. When God speaks to His prophets He gives specifics. Pat is no more than a religious businessman. His false predictions have not come to pass, revealing he is a false prophet. Witness: Pat said in 2004 Bush would win by a landslide blowout, the Pacific Northwest would see a tsunami in 2006, major nuclear attacks in the US would take place in 2007, and he new who would win the US presidential election in 2008 but couldn’t tell anyone. None of these false prophecies have come to pass. Who is Pat-the-false-prophet listening to?

Pat Robertson: False Prophet

“I put these things out with humility but nevertheless,
I have a relatively good track record…
…sometimes I’ve missed.”
(Pat Robertson)

Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul
(Deut. 13:3).

Pat Robertson, founder of the Christian Broadcasting Network, announced at his staff's annual prayer retreat that God told him Americans would embrace socialism in 2009 "in order to relieve their pain" and that the economy would rebound under an Obama administration. "The Lord said the economy of your nation will recover," Robertson told a group assembled at Founders Inn on the campus of Regent University in Virginia Beach, Va., a university Robertson founded. Robertson said God also declared, "The steps taken will lead to a dramatic increase in the power of government. The people will welcome socialism in order to relieve their pain. Nothing will stand in the way of a plan by Obama to restructure the economy in the same fashion as the New Deal in the '30s." In a follow-up interview he granted to Terry Meeuwsen, his co-host on CBN's The 700 Club, Robertson added, "It will be the largest transfer of power to Washington since the '30s. But people are willing to accept it because the pain has been so bad."

In a CBN-produced video clip containing both the predictions and the interview, Meeuwsen points out that Robertson has been right on his predictions before. At the beginning of 2008, for example, Robertson correctly predicted the year would include a world-wide recession, a stock market crash, oil hitting $150 (it hit $147) per barrel, and gold topping $1000 an ounce, which it did in March 2008. In the interview with Meeuwsen, Robertson assures Americans that contrary to many economists' opinions, the economic recovery will be swift. "Cast off the gloom and the doom," Robertson says, "because things are getting ready to turn around." Robertson's New Year's Day predictions for 2009 also offered reassurance for Israel with words demonstrating that he had foreseen the country's military actions today in the Gaza Strip. "Israel is entering a period of extreme crisis," Robertson said. "A strong government that deals forcefully with the Palestinians will bring international condemnation and sanctions against Israel, but the Lord will uphold his people despite world opinion."

Not all of Robertson's predictions, however, are quite so rosy. Socialist policies and massive government spending, Robertson told Meeuwsen, could lead to heavy hyperinflation, sending prices through the roof and the value of the dollar through the floor. "The Lord said the dollar is going to go down dramatically," Robertson said in the interview. "If I'm hearing him right, gold will go to about $1900 dollars an ounce and oil to $300 a barrel." As a result, Robertson warned, "People are not going to trust the United States any longer as the leader in financial matters." On a more spiritual theme, Robertson concluded his New Year's Day predictions by declaring that God says now is the time for Christians to expand their outreach and evangelism around the world, especially toward Muslims. "The whole of Islam is weakening. The violence and bloodshed has turned many against this religion of hate," Robertson declared. "There has never been, nor will there ever be, a more propitious time for the gospel," he announced. "People by the tens of millions will be seeking answers. They will gladly receive the forgiveness of sins that was bought by the death of Jesus Christ."

Christian broadcaster Pat Robertson, who has made predicting the future an annual tradition, predicts a recession and a major stock market upheaval are on their way for the United States. Aside from a recession this year, Robertson suggested Wednesday that Americans will be paying much more for gas at the pump as the price of a barrel of oil rises by 50 percent in the coming months. Specifically, he said oil would reach $150 a barrel - the price hit $100 on Wednesday - with the dollar continuing to lose value in 2008. "I also believe the Lord was saying by 2009, maybe 2010, there's going to be a major stock market crash," said Robertson, who is a millionaire businessman as well as an evangelical leader. But don't unload your portfolio just yet. Robertson acknowledged Wednesday that his prophecy of a nuclear terror attack in 2007 failed to unfold.

He also cited information from God when he predicted on a year go that major U.S. cities would be hit by "very serious terrorist attacks" causing "possibly millions" of deaths. No such catastrophe occurred. "All I can think is that somehow the people of God prayed and God in his mercy spared us," Robertson said on "The 700 Club," a television show he hosts on the Christian Broadcasting Network, based in Virginia Beach. "So did I miss it? Possibly," he said of his unrealized prediction. "Or, on the other hand, did God avert it? Possibly. But whatever, it didn't happen, so I think we can all rejoice." On Wednesday, Robertson, 77, implied that God informed him who will be elected president in November. "He told me some things about the election, but I'm not going to say, because some old man on "60 Minutes" would make fun of me, so I'm not going to tell you who the winner's going to be," Robertson said, an apparent reference to CBS humorist Andy Rooney, who turns 89 on Jan. 14.

Additionally, "the Lord was saying there's going to be violence and chaos in the world," Robertson said. He cited violence in Kenya and Pakistan, saying "we've just begun to see what's going to happen." Robertson said he received no divine information about the war in Iraq. In past years, he said, "the Lord told me it would be a disaster; well, it has been a disaster." In May 2006, Robertson cited God in predicting that "the coasts are going to be lashed by vicious hurricanes this year" and that the Pacific Northwest could see a tsunami. No hurricanes struck the U.S. coastline in 2006; three tropical storms hit the country. In January 2004, Robertson said, "I really believe I'm hearing from the Lord it's going to be like a blowout" re-election for President Bush. Bush won 51 percent of the vote that fall, beating Democratic Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts.
