Project Daniel And The Samson Option

Isaiah Chapter 17:

Damascus To Be Obliterated

Syria And Hezbollah With Iran’s Help Taking Over Lebanon To Invade Israel

The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap. The cities of Aroer are forsaken: they shall be for flocks, which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid. The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Syria: they shall be as the glory of the children of Israel, saith the LORD of hosts
(Isaiah 17:1-3).

Project Daniel

Project Daniel

Project Daniel was a 2003 Israeli project, commissioned to assess the threat to the nation of Israel from other states in the Middle East, drawing particular attention to Iran, with Iran's nuclear program in mind. It was prepared by a high-powered team of Israeli foreign policy and military experts. The report was submitted to (then) Israeli Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon, and was discussed between Israel, the United States, and NATO. It surmised that the "principal existential threat to Israel at the present time is a conventional war mounted against it by a coalition of Arab states and/or Iran."

The six members of the Project Daniel board were Professor Louis René Beres and Doctor Rand H. Fishbein (a former Special Assistant for National Security Affairs to Senator Daniel K. Inouye) from the United States, and Naaman Belkind, former assistant to the Israeli Deputy Minister of Defense for Special Means, Major General Professor Yitzhak Ben Yisrael, Doctor Adir Pridor, former head of Military Analysis, and Colonel Yoash Tsiddon-Chatto, from Israel.

Summary Of Recommendations

The project discussed the danger from 'Weapons of Mass Destruction' (WMDs), including nuclear, chemical and biological weapons, particularly since Israel has such a high concentration of population. The recommendations of the report were that Israel should do anything possible to prevent an anti-Israeli coalition from being formed, and from that coalition gaining control of WMDs. It suggested Israel should retain the option of carrying out preemptive strikes, describing them as 'anticipatory self-defense.' The strikes would be a combination of air strikes and selective covert operations by ground forces at certain critical (and publicly un-named) locations.

It also recommended that Israel should retain its current policy of deliberate ambiguity regarding its nuclear status. If, at a later date, other states in the Middle East (particularly Iran) were to acquire nuclear technology that Israel perceived as a threat, then the Daniel Project recommended limited disclosure of Israel's nuclear weapons capacity, as a deterrent. The final recommendation was that Israel should provide constructive support to the United States' War on Terrorism; particularly in counter-terrorism operations.

Samson Option

Sept. 14, 2008
Samson Option

The Samson Option is a term used to describe Israel’s alleged deterrence strategy of massive retaliation with nuclear weapons as a “last resort” against nations whose military attacks threaten its existence, and possibly against other targets as well. Israel refuses to admit it has nuclear weapons or to describe how it would use them, an official policy of nuclear ambiguity, also known as "nuclear opacity." This has made it difficult for anyone outside the Israeli government to definitively describe its true nuclear policy, while still allowing Israel to influence the perceptions, strategies and actions of other governments.

As early as 1976, the CIA believed that Israel possessed 10 to 20 nuclear weapons. By 2002 it was estimated that the number had increased to between 75 and 200 nuclear weapons. Kenneth S. Brower has estimated as many as 400 nuclear weapons. These can be launched from land, sea and air. This gives Israel a second strike option even if much of the country is destroyed. The term "Samson Option" has also been used more generally in reference to Israel's nuclear program. Commentators have also used the term in reference to situations where non-nuclear actors threatened conventional weapons retaliation….

Damascus Today

Damascus Today
by Dr. Gavin Finley

Damascus is perhaps the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world. It has never been destroyed in warfare. But the prophecy in the Hebrew Old Testament predicts its complete destruction.  Israel has been suffering from a continuous series of terrorist attacks from across her eastern and northern borders. There is evidence that Damascus sheltered and gave the order for the Islamic Jihad attack on Tel Aviv in 2005.

Currently, a total of seven of the foreign terrorist organizations on the State Department's terrorism list are headquartered in Damascus. In January of 2006 there was a meeting of many prominent radical Islamic leaders in Damascus. Iran may have a large number of nuclear warheads diverted to Iran from the Ukraine some years back when the USSR broke up. 250 of them have not been accounted for. Russia cannot say where they might be. An article from the Jerusalem Post suggests that Iran may in fact have four nuclear bombs. This may help to explain the recent belligerence coming out of Iran.

If Iran has some of these warheads they will still be in service until 2010.  Syria will soon, or already has take delivery, (or has just taken delivery of), 26 Russian Iskander SS-26 surface missiles. These can deliver a 1,000 lb conventional bomb 250 miles with deadly accuracy.

Documents Show: Iran Already Has At Least Four Nuclear Bombs

Documents Show: Iran Already Has At Least Four Nuclear Bombs
Jerusalem Post - Jerusalem
By Steve Rodan

Iran received several nuclear warheads from a former Soviet republic in the early 1990s and Russian experts maintained them, according to Iranian government documents relayed to Israel and obtained by The Jerusalem Post. The documents, deemed authentic by US congressional experts and still being studied in Israel, contain correspondence between Iranian government officials and leaders of the Revolutionary Guards that discusses Iran's successful efforts to obtain nuclear warheads from former Soviet republics. A detailed account of the Iranian effort, released on January 20, 1992, by the US Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare of the House Republican Research Committee, asserted that by the end of 1991 there was a "98 percent certainty that Iran already had all (or virtually all) of the components required for two to three operational nuclear weapons (aerial bombs and SSM warheads) made with parts purchased in the ex-Soviet Moslem republics."

Iran And Syria: State Sponsorship In The Age Of Terror Networks

Iran and Syria: State Sponsorship in the Age of Terror Networks
Matthew Levitt

The US Secretary of State was sent in April 2002, and demanded that the Syrians do more to crack down on Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, and other terrorist groups operating in Syria and Syrian-controlled Lebanon. Currently, a total of seven of the foreign terrorist organizations on the State Department's terrorism list are headquartered in Damascus.

Assurances were given, but senior members of Hamas, Islamic Jihad, the PFLP and the PFLP-GC instructed journalists they were removing the brass plaques on their doors, and were no longer granting interviews in Damascus. Henceforth, interviews would be granted in Lebanon only. According to U.S. intelligence, all these groups continued operating in Damascus; only the press interviews were cut back.

Syrian Commando Units Drive Into Lebanon

Syrian commando units drive into Lebanon
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report

Two Syrian commando battalions accompanied by reconnaissance and engineering corps units have crossed into Lebanon in the last 48 hours and taken up positions in seven villages, most of them Allawite Muslim, outside Tripoli, DEBKAfile’s military sources reported Saturday, Sept. 13. They are the vanguard of a large armored force poised on the border. Damascus has signaled to Washington and Paris: Don’t interfere. It is the largest Syrian force to invade Lebanon since Damascus was forced to end its occupation of the country in May 2005, three months after former Lebanese prime minister Rafiq Hariri was assassinated. Tripoli is Lebanon’s second-largest city, with half a million inhabitants, most of them Sunni Moslems but including large Christian and Alawite communities. The Syrian incursion coincided with the expected arrival of Russian naval and engineering experts for renovating Tartus, the Syrian port 40 kilometers north of Tripoli, to serve as the Russian fleet’s first permanent Mediterranean base. Bashar Assad clearly feels he can safely embark on a fresh foreign adventure to occupy northern Lebanon without fear of restraint.

According to DEBKAfile’s Washington and Paris sources, the US and French governments knew what was coming. Both had heard Damascus accusing the pro-Western Lebanese majority leader Saad Hariri and Saudi Arabia of sponsoring a bid by Muslim Salafite movements and radicals close to al Qaeda to set up a “Lebanese Kandahar” in Tripoli, in order to keep the Shiite Hizballah out. Israel was in the picture too. During French president Nicolas Sarkozy’s visit to Damascus last month, Bashar Assad said the West should understand that Syria could not accept a “jihadist base on its doorstep.” DEBKAfile’s sources report this pretext for Syria’s blatant invasion of northern Lebanon is hardly likely to go down seriously. For five years, Assad provided al Qaeda and other radical Islamists a corridor through Syria to fight American troops in Iraq plus training facilities. Seen from Israel, once Assad’s army completes its advance on Tripoli, he will control the full length of the military supply route for Hizballah from the Syrian ports of Latakia and Tartus. The Russian presence will add a new and troubling dimension to this development.

Syrian Commandos In Lebanon

Sept. 14, 2008
BREAKING: Syrian Commandos in Lebanon
By W. Thomas Smith Jr.

Lebanese, Kuwait, and Israeli media are reporting at least two Syrian commando (special operations) battalions have crossed the Syrian-Lebanese border into north Lebanon and taken up positions in seven Alawite-controlled villages. According to Naharnet and DEBKAfile, “the battalions were accompanied by reconnaissance and engineering units.” (Kuwait’s Alseyassah newspaper is reporting: “Syrian Special Forces are entering Lebanese Alawite villages”). EXACTLY ONE WEEK AGO, WE REPORTED: “‘hundreds’ of Syrian commandos, preceded by ‘dozens’ of Syrian intelligence operatives, have crossed into northern Lebanon near the Lebanese village of Hekr el Dahr a few kilometers from the Mediterranean coast.” We also reported that the incursions reportedly had been taking place since Wednesday-Thursday (Sept. 3-4) of the previous week, and that Syrian helicopters had been observed operating on the Syrian side of the border, and tanks and artillery pieces have been spotted and reported.

The new information reaffirms what we already knew to be true, that is the Iranian-Syrian-Hezbollah axis is manipulating Western media in Lebanon for their own ends. This does not mean to say that all media in Lebanon is corrupt. What it does mean – and as I have reported since September of 2007 – is there are huge, in-your-face stories of great strategic significance taking place in Lebanon involving Iranian, Syrian, and Hezbollah military/intelligence exercises and operations that are NOT being reported. This has been proven time-and-again since a handful of Western media (primarily bloggers) said this was not the case months ago. The revelation of Hezbollah’s telecommunications system in May of 2008 (which we first reported in 2007), confirmation by counterterrorism experts of previously UNREPORTED Hezbollah military exercises, exact and accurate predictions of when and how Hezbollah would launch its attacks in May, and the overall strength and activities of Hezbollah nationwide all confirm this.

UPDATE LBC News in Lebanon

UPDATE LBC News in Lebanon reported the DEBKAfile story just after 8:00 pm (Beirut time). But the Lebanese Army quickly issued a statement denying the reports. Keep in mind, the Army general staff and Army intelligence are both closely connected to Syria, as is the former Army commander-in-chief (now president) Michel Sleiman.

Read these previous articles:

Lebanon is being taken over by Syria and Hezbollah troops. Iran, Russia, and Syria are supplying terrorist groups in Lebanon, Syria, Gaza, and the West Bank for an invasion into Israel. Israel knows the build-up is taking place and coordinated in Damascus. UN Forces are sitting idly by "keeping the peace." When Israel is threatened in this manner she will begin a pre-emptive strike. However, the Arab neighbors are aware of this tactic and are ready. The next step is for Israel to use her nuclear weapons. Damascus will be ground zero according the prophecy and the city will be annihilated over night. The prophecy indicates Operation Samson will begin at night and before the morning arrives, Damascus becomes a ruinous heap.

And behold at eveningtide trouble; and before the morning he is not. This is the portion of them that spoil us, and the lot of them that rob us (Isaiah 17).
