Saudis give up on US, instigate direct Gulf action against Iran

After giving up on U.S. and Israel ever confronting Iran, Saudi Arabia has gone out on a limb against the Obama administration to place itself at the forefront of an independent Gulf campaign for cutting down the Islamic Republic's drive for a nuclear bomb and its expansionist meddling in Arab countries, debkafile's Middle East sources report. Two US emissaries sent to intercede with Saudi King Abdullah – US Defense Secretary Robert Gates on April 6 and National Security Adviser Tom Donilon, who arrived in Riyadh six days later – were told that Saudi Arabia had reached a parting-of-the-ways with Washington, followed actively by Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman.
Abdullah said he could not forgive the Americans for throwing former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to the wolves in Cairo and for the unrest they were promoting against Arab regimes. Saudi Arabia was therefore determined to lead the Gulf region on the road to a confrontation with Iran – up to and including military action if necessary – to defend the oil emirates against Iranian conspiracies in the pursuit of which the king accused US-led diplomacy of giving Tehran a clear field. Monday, April 18, the foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council, GCC, asked the UN Security Council to take action for stopping Iran's "provocative interference in their countries' domestic affairs." This "flagrant interference" posed a "grave security to, and risked flaring up sectarian strike, in the GCC countries." The resolution went on to state: "The GCC will not hesitate to adopt whatever measures and policies they deem necessary vis-à-vis the foreign interferences in their internal affairs."
The phrase "measures and policies deemed necessary" is diplomatic parlance for a military threat. It implies that Saudi Arabia and the rest of the regional group are confident that together, they command the strategic resources and assets necessary for a military strike against Iran. Our military sources report that the Saudis are convinced that their combined missile, air force and naval strength is fully capable of inflicting in-depth damage on mainland Iran. Their message to Washington is that the Gulf nations are now making their own decisions. Iran has taken two steps in response to the Saudi-led Gulf challenge: Thousands of Iranian students, mobilized by the Revolutionary Guards and Basijj voluntary corps have laid the Saudi embassy in Tehran to siege for most of the past week, launching stone and firebomb assaults from time to time, but so far making no attempt to invade the building. Then, Saturday, April 16, the Iranian foreign ministry summoned the Pakistani chargé d'affaires to warn him sternly against allowing Saud Arabia and Bahrain to continue conscripting Pakistani military personnel. Tehran claims that by offering exorbitant paychecks, Riyadh has raised 1,000 Pakistani recruits for its military operation in support of the Bahraini king and another 1,500 are on their way to the Gulf.
Iran also beefed up its strength along the Pakistani border to warn Islamabad that if it matters come to a clash with Saudi Arabia, Pakistani and its military will not escape punishment. King Abdullah first defied the Obama administration's policy of support for popular uprisings against autocratic Arab regimes on March 14 by sending Saudi troops into Bahrain to prop up the king against the Shiite-led disturbances organized by Tehran's Lebanese surrogate, Hizballah. This force has been expanded continuously, split now between units suppressing the uprising and the bulk deployed on the island's coast, 320 kilometers from the shore of Iran. Saudi ground-to-ground and anti-air missiles have been transferred to the Bahraini capital of Manama and naval units, including missile vessels, positioned in its harbor.
Monday, April 18, Bahraini Foreign Minister Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa announced that Saudi and allied GCC troops would stay in the kingdom until Iran no longer poses a menace. "Gulf force is needed to counter a sustained campaign by Iran in Bahrain," he said. Tehran-Riyadh tensions are rippling into other arenas: On April 11-12, the chronically disaffected Arabs of Ahwaz in the western Iranian province of Khuzestan (1.2 million inhabitants) staged a two-day uprising against the Iranian government. In their first crackdown, government forces killed at least 15 demonstrators before cutting off Ahwaz's links with the outside world. Since incoming flights were cancelled, roads to the town blocked and telephone and Internet communications discontinued, no independent information is coming out of the province. Tehran accuses Saudi and United Arab Emirate undercover agencies of fomenting the unrest in one of its oil centers. So too does Syrian president Bashar Assad, who claims the spreading revolt against his regime, now entering its second month, was instigated from Riyadh.
Debkafile's Gulf sources report that King Abdullah has placed himself at the head of the Saudi-GCC political and military campaign against Iran. His team consists of Interior Minister, second-in-line to the throne Prince Nayef; Director of General Intelligence Prince Muqrin bin Abdulaziz; National Security Adviser Prince Bandar bin Sultan; Deputy Defense Minister Prince Khaled bin Sultan; and the king's son, Commander of the National Guard Prince Muttab. According to our sources, Riyadh has not just given up on American action against Iran but also despaired of Israel and its passive acceptance of a nuclear-armed Iran and the hostile military noose the Islamic Republic is drawing around its borders from Lebanon, the Gaza Strip and Syria. In the view of Saudi policy-makers, the effect of the Stuxnet cyber war on Iran's nuclear facilities and the targeted assassination of some of the program's key executives has been overrated. They characterize the two covert campaigns as causing limited damage at first and then acting as a fillip for accelerating Iran's drive for a nuclear bomb. (Saudi Arabia is known as Dedan in the Bible (Ezekiel 38:13) and scripture prophecies that Dedan will protest the invasion of Israel by Persia [Iran], Russia, and Turkey).

How are World Events Being Interpreted by Iran's Islamic Regime? "The Coming is Near," released Mar. 28, 2011 is an Islamic video translated and subtitled by Reza Kahlili. The video is an abbreviated version of a documentary produced by allies of the Iranian Islamic regime in response to recent crisis in the Middle East. Its intention is to show how these violent chaotic events indicate the imminent arrival of the Mahdi - the Shiite Islamic messiah - and the unification of the world under Islam. Analysis of common questions regarding the timing of the reappearance of the twelfth Imam Mahdi: Analysis of the Hadith and how they relate to the current situation in the Middle East with the focus on what role the Islamic Republic of Iran will play at the time of the reappearance. In the occupation of Palestine, the wars of Korea and Vietnam, the occupation of Afghanistan and Iraq, the wars in Africa and the one against Iran, hundreds of millions of innocent human beings were slaughtered, injured or became refugees. Over 20,000 nuclear warheads are at the disposal of the world powers; half of them belong to America. In 2009, FAO, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, announced that hunger has spread to over one billion people. The growth of hundreds of evil worshipping groups in the world threatens the youth.
The reappearance has other conditions that require strong beliefs and pious leaders with a strong will. In the Hadith, they have been named as the preparers of The Coming, and will rise from Lebanon, Yemen and Iran. “Those of my descendants will manifest the truth and justice so that God commands The Coming.” –Mohammad (side note: the king of Jordan claims descendancy from Mohammed and the crown prince of Jordan Hussein bin Al Abdullah is the 44th descendent of Mohammad [there is English and Palestinian mixed in their blood] from the Hashemite Kingdom). “I can tell you with utmost confidence: The promise of Allah for The Coming and the establishment of a new Islamic civilization is on its way.” (shows a picture of Ayatollah Khomeini). The Hadith have clearly described the events and the transformation of various countries in the Middle East and also that of Iran in the age of The Coming.
One month after 9/11 an opinion in the Guardian, stated that Islam is the only cultural system that threatens the modernized West. It emphasized that in order to defeat the resistance of the Islamic countries, America can use its military might. After 9/11, America officially launched its project of Islam fear mongering. America, and its allies of forty countries, started the war against the Islamic world. In just a few years, they have dropped hundreds of thousand of bombs on the people in Islamic countries. What was the reason for the aggressors to occupy the religious centers, the grand mosques in Iraq, and the interrogation of the people? Were they looking for certain individuals? Some believe this all out aggression has a direct connection to the end of times and The Coming of the Mahdi.
The Events in Iraq in the Age of The Coming of the Mahdi: The events in Iraq, the war and bloodshed, have been described in detail that this land will be the center of conflicts in the age of The Coming, though after the reappearance, it will serve as the capital of world’s governance of Imam Mahdi. “The splitters will split and progress; the swift winged will attack.” –Imam Ali. The world turns away and anxiety will be plenty. And so they will conquer Iraq and through bloodshed create divisions in tribes. At that time be ready for the reappearance of the last messiah, Imam Mahdi. Some believe that the ruthless dictator of Iraq who will be killed in the age of The Coming is Saddam Hussein. Extreme fear will rule all of Iraq, taking away peace and tranquility. A book called “Bayan Al Aaemeh” describes the condition as such: The countries of infidel, the western countries, will take their army and their arms to the Islamic countries in the Middle East, but when they want to enter Iraq, they do so through war and they enter from the south.
The Events in Yemen on the threshold of The Coming: It has been predicted by the Hadith that on the threshold of The Coming, a holy revolution will take place in this country. Some believe that after The Coming, the first soldiers of Imam Mahdi who will reach Mecca will be from Yemen. During recent years, the Shiites in Yemen have been under attack by its central government. But with their courageous resistance have pushed back the enemy. In the most recent conflict, the government of Saudi Arabia attacked the Shiites in Yemen form the ground, the sea and the sky. Meanwhile, the government of Jordan sent over 2,000 of its commandos to join in the attack with Israel and America. What is the reason for this focus by the enemy on the Shiites of Yemen?
The Events in Egypt on the threshold of The Coming: The Hadith are clear about the events in Egypt prior to The Coming in which the people of this country rise up against their ruler creating a chaotic atmosphere. The Hadith predict that the ruler of Egypt will be killed in the country will be engulfed with conflict. The struggle for power and the rise in the popularity of Islamic groups like the Muslim Brotherhood and the uprising of the people in confrontation with the Mubarak government is in accordance with the Hadith.
The events in Palestine on the threshold of The Coming: The Hadith predicts that Palestine will be the center of disturbance, insecurity and sedition by the Jewish nation. Imam Ali describes with clarity the role and destiny of the Jews in the Middle East during the age of The Coming: To establish its government in Palestine the Jews will come from the West (i.e. Britannia). During this time, the Arabs and their forces will be separated from one another and are not united. They asked Imam Ali: “Will this calamity and mayhem last long?” Imam Ali responded: “No, not until the time that the Arabs rid themselves of the influence of others, take back control of their affairs, and once again have strong determination. At that time they shall conquer the land of Palestine and the Arabs will be victorious and united. Then extra forces will arrive from the land of Iraq with flags which have “Algovah” written on it (at this point the video shows a picture of the yellow Hezbollah flag with the AK-47 and the Arabic word al-ġālibūn (triumphant). The current Palestinian generation will witness the defeat of Israel.” –Iranian newspaper Kayhan
They (Israel) attacked Lebanon; a mistake. They attacked Gaza; a mistake. They attack those ships (Israel attacks Turkey ships at blockade in 2010); a mistake. These mistakes, one after another, show that the murderous Zionist regime of Israel is reaching the final fall and destruction of its own non-existence. “With the start of a new war, the destruction of Israel is certain.” Nassrollah, quoted in Iranian newspaper Kayhan. The annihilation of the Zionist regime (the Jews in Israel) and the conquering of Beitol Moghadas (Jerusalem) is one of the most important events in the age of The Coming.
The events in Saudi Arabia on the threshold of The Coming are also clearly described in the Hadith. According to the Hadith the dynasty of Bani Abass will rule Saudi Arabia. Researchers believe that Bani Abass is the same as Al Saud. According to the Hadith, upon the death of a ruler named Abdullah, conflict and struggle of power will increase in Saudi Arabia and this will continue until the reappearance of the last messiah, Mahdi. It is important to note that Saudi Arabia has not had a king named Abdullah in the past 100 years. Isn’t the presence of Abdullah, his illness, and his uncertain condition, great news for those anxious for The Coming?
The events in Iran on the threshold of The Coming: According to credible Hadith in the age of The Coming, a revolution takes place in Iran, a great sign of the closeness of the reappearance, which serves as the preparer of the conditions for the worldwide movement in The Coming of the last messiah. A man (showing a picture of the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini of the 1980’s) from the city of Qom will call out the people toward the truth; he will be surrounded by those with iron hearts. Storms will not weaken them. They won’t tire from war and are not afraid of such. They depend on Allah. And tomorrow belongs to the righteous. “In the end of time, descendants of Imam Ali will join ranks, their hearts close to one another through the cause of Ruhollahn (ruho allahn translates to spirit of Allah).” –Mohammad. I can see that the oppressed will rise from the East and request their rights and justice, but when it is ignored, they draw their swords and confront the enemy and that is how they succeed. But they are not satisfied until all will revolt to see the guidance of the last messiah and their killed will be one of Martyrs!” –Imam Mohammad Bagher
Analyzing The Figures in the Age of The Coming: Important parts of the Hadith talk about certain key individuals prior to The Coming such as; Seyed Khorasni, Shoeib-Ebne Saleh, Yamani, Sofiani and Abdullah of Saudi Arabia. In order for the appearance to be close, these individuals must be present and active. As Sofiani moves, men will hide their faces. When Abdullah dies, the reappearance is guaranteed.
Many of the Hadith, both from Sunni and Shiite sources, conclude that the figure “Seyed Khorasani” is the leader of the people in the East or one of their high ranking officials who will pass on the flag of Islam to the last messiah. The Hadith provide certain quality and signs of this leader, Seyed Khorasani. A courageous man from Bani Hashem will rise from the province of Khorasan with black flags and has a sign in this right hand. Seyed Khorasani is from the province of Khorasan. Seyed Khorasani has a sign or a disorder in his right hand. Seyed Khorasani will prepare for the reappearance. Seyed Khorasani will hand over the flag of Islam to the last messiah. Seyed Khorasani has a strong and mobilized army. Seyed Khorasani is a leader of the people who rise up from the East. Shouldn’t Seyed Khorasani have a strong army in order to be victorious in the intense wars to take place before The Coming.
The Islamic republic of Iran has scores of modernized warships. Hundreds of modernized bombers. Thousands of modernized missiles. And millions of willing martyrs’ forces. Iran has turned into one of the most powerful forces in the Middle East. After a meeting with the leaders of the Zionist regime, the Joint Chiefs of Staff in America announced that in a confrontation with Iran, the option of a military confrontation is no longer possible. Many of the scholars believe that Seyed Khorasani is the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei (the current Ayatollah), which the Hadith have referred to.
Another key individual in the age of The Coming is called “Yamani.” His presence is another sign that the reappearance is close. Some scholars believe that this individual named in the the Hadith is Seyed Hassan Nassrollah (the current and third Secretary General of the Lebanese political and paramilitary organization Hezbollah). Seyed Hassan Nassrollah is from the Shiites of Yemen whose ancestors lived in Yemen and immigrated to Lebanon decades ago. Seyed Hassan Nassrollah has a Jihadist flag popular among Shiites and Sunnis. Seyed Hassan Nassrollah sees himself as a soldier of Imam Khamenei (Ayatollah Khamanei). And so it is clear: The forces of Seyed Khorasani and Yamani will coordinate the revolt against evil.
The Imposter-the Islamic Anti-Christ: One of the important signs prior to The Coming is the rise of the imposter, the Islamic Antichrist. The imposter has been described in the Hadith as a wicked being who will confront Allah’s faith. There are many signs describing the imposter, which cannot point to a single being. Hadith talk about several imposters prior to The Coming (the video shows a picture of a red dragon behind King Abdullah of Jordan, Muammar Gaddafi of Libya, Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel, Osama bin Laden of Saudi Arabia, Barak Obama of the U.S., and King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, who they claim is a member of the Spanish branch of the Christian Freemasonic Order of the Golden Fleece, Abdullah of Saudi Arabia practically denounces Islam. Many Muslims believe these aforementioned Middle East leaders are freemasons).
Freemasons, the Imposters in the End of Time: Freemasons are a secret society with the final goal of a devilish governance of the world with Jerusalem as its capital. Their belief is a devilish ideology with it roots dating back to the Pharaohs. In the past two centuries, this devilish organization has gained much power in the world. Another important figure in the age of The Coming is Shoeib-Ebne Saleh. According to the Hadith, Shoeib starts his move 72 months prior to The Coming. Shoeib will be appointed to the commander in chief by Seyed Khorasani (Ayatollah Khomeini). Can Doctor Ahmadinejad be the Shoeib-Ebne Salch, that great commander of Islam at the time of The Coming? According to Hadith, Shoeib has the confirmation of Seyed Khorasani and is appointed as the commander of Iranian forces on the threshold of The Coming. There are several Hadith that point to Shoeib’s final goal of conquering Beitel Moghadas (Jerusalem) and on the threshold of The Coming: this holy place will be conquered by him and his forces.

May 6th 2008, six major world powers including the US will again offer Iran incentives, -- a repackaged version of the same ones offered in 2006 to which they never responded -- as encouragement for Tehran to suspend its uranium enrichment program. Iran has already indicated it will reject the latest attempt at appeasement. According to a Breitbart report, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said Sunday Iran will continue its nuclear program despite Western efforts adding, "No threat can hinder the Iranian nation from its path." But even should Iran ultimately agree, we would be foolish to believe a nuclear bullet has been dodged. It is imperative that in analyzing Iran’s true intentions, we give less weight to our own logic of reason -- i.e., believing a reasonable man will choose peaceful co-existence over the alternative -- and more to the absence of such logic in Tehran. It is imperative we understand the psyche of Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad -- a man who may, before his term in office expires, have his hands on a nuclear weapon. For those who have closely followed Ahmadinejad’s rants and raves since he became president in 2005, he is a troubling psychological case study (see "Iranian President Seeks Return of the Messiah Through War"). To understand his psyche, we are left to study his words, his actions and the beliefs to which he personally adheres.
- As do many
Shi’ite Muslims, Ahmadinejad adheres to the core belief a mystical “Hidden”
12th Imam, who disappeared more than a millenium ago, is destined to return
to restore Islam to greatness. As do many Shi’ites, Ahmadinejad believes
this 12th Imam, Muhammad al-Mahdi, will only return in the wake of world
chaos. But unlike most Shi’ites who believe such chaos must evolve
naturally, Ahmadinejad is a member of a small sect believing man can
be a catalyst in causing the necessary chaos. Ahmadinejad’s quest to
acquire nuclear weapons must, therefore, be weighed against his belief he
can expedite the chaos to trigger al-Mahdi’s return.
- Ahmadinejad believes his destiny is, literally, to pave the way for the
12th Imam’s return: the
Shoeib-Ebne Salch, that great commander of Islam at the
time of "The Coming." As mayor of Tehran before becoming president, he ordered
streets widened to be able to accommodate the celebratory parade marking al-Mahdi’s
future return.
- Ahmadinejad’s belief in his
special role in the 12th Imam’s return prompted him to share a “vision” he
had during his 2006 appearance before the UN. Allegedly, he saw himself
engulfed in a “halo” as he spoke. Additionally, in concluding his remarks to
this world body, he prayed and forewarned of al-Mahdi’s imminent return.
- As Ahmadinejad spoke at the UN, construction
in Iran (he had funded) was underway to expand a small mosque outside the
holy city of Qom where, in his apocalyptic vision, al-Mahdi is to make his
re-appearance, marking the end of the world. In a nearby well, believers
deposit messages for al-Mahdi. Here, Ahmadinejad has left his master plan
for Planet Earth’s future.
- One can only
assume Ahmadinejad’s master plan paints a dark future for Israel. In an
October 20, 2006 speech to mark the Iranian holiday of Quds, he urged
Muslims around the world to prepare for a “great war” to destroy Israel -- a
warning made only a year after his declaration “Israel should be wiped off
the map.”
- “Israel must be uprooted and erased from history” inscribed on a Shahab 3 ballistic missile in a military parade in Teheran (September 22, 2003).
- Posters and banners inscribed with the words “Death to Israel” and people shouting for the destruction of Israel and its removal from "the pages of history" were prominent in a popular parade held in Teheran on Jerusalem Day at which senior government members were present. Former Iranian president Kahatami patting a child holding a flag reading “Death to Israel” (Fars News Agency, Nov. 21, 2003).

During a Monday appearance on MSNBC's Morning Joe, Senator Lieberman claimed Iran's Quds force is responsible for killing hundreds of American soldiers in Iraq. "I hope we don't have to get to the point of moving in any way into Iran to strike at the base of the people who are responsible for killing Americans," the Democrat-turned-Independent continued. The White House has ratcheted up the pressure on Tehran over allegations that the Islamic Republic supports the insurgency in Iraq by aiding and training the militias.
Tehran rejects the accusations, citing US occupation as the main factor behind insecurity in the oil-rich war-ravaged country. "But I hope that the Quds force and the Iranian government has in mind that that is a distinct possibility because let's be direct about this - and that's why I asked General Petraeus the question - the Iranians have been equipping to go back and are responsible for the killing of hundreds of American soldier," continued Senator Lieberman.
The Iraqi government, however, has disputed the US allegations against Iran, saying there is no evidence that suggest Tehran is stoking the sectarian violence there with money, weapons and paramilitary training. "There is no conclusive evidence," said Iraqi government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh on May 4 in response to reports that some rockets seized in raids against Iraqi fighters were supplied by Iran.

Here is the problem. Syria, Persia (Iran) and the Islamist terrorist groups like Hizbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza are never going to have peace with Israel no matter how many times administrations believe their Islamic extremists lies. Those extremist lies are for gaining time and money from naive negotiators. Syria and Persia do not want the Jews to own Israel. Syria is friends with Iran for strategic purposes. Iran has elected another mad-man as their leader who is looking to bring-on Armageddon in order to introduce there version of the (anti-) Christ called al-Mahdi. The perfect weapon of choice for the job is a nuclear bomb. The Persian mad-man is working on that goal and no one is stopping him, at the present time.

Ezekiel 38 through 39 tells of a future invasion of Israel by a vast coalition of nations that surround it. Ezekiel 36-37 predicts a gathering of the Jews to the nation of Israel, which will be followed by this massive invasion. For 19 centuries the Jewish people were scattered throughout the world, and until May 14, 1948 there was no nation of Israel to invade. With the nation of Israel now a reality, the stage is set for the war that will usher in the tribulation and the rise of the Antichrist; a war that will lead to the signing of a peace treaty with the Antichrist and end with the destruction of Israel's enemies by God Himself.
To understand the prophecies of Ezekiel about this future invasion, it's important to understand who the players will be. There are many theories as to who will join in this future invasion of Israel. Before going through a list of the individual nations, I'll list some of the more common theories you'll hear when studying the prophecies from Ezekiel 38.
And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him, And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal: And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords: Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet: Gomer, and all his bands; the house of Togarmah of the north quarters, and all his bands: and many people with thee (Ezekiel 38:1-6).
1. Hashemite Kingdom Theory: The Islamic Nations will come against Israel either by an Iraqi-led, Jordanian led, or Turkish led coalition. The enemy from the north refers to the areas of Syria, Turkey, and Iraq. These Islamic nations make up the lands occupied by Magog, Gomer, Togarmah, Meshech and Tubal.
2. Caucaus Theory: Gog and Magog are the Arab nations in an alliance with the Muslim republics of the former Soviet Union. This theory leaves out most of Russia, and includes only the southern part.
3. All Europe theory: Gog and Magog are the sons of Japeth thus the originators of the European races. Gog and Magog therefore indicates all of Europe. This is not a widely held theory and I could find little support for it.
4. Russian Theory: The Hebrew word 'rosh' in verse 3 is identified with Russia, 'Tubal' with Tiblisi or Tobolsk and 'Meshech' with Moscow, therefore Gog and Magog refers to Russia. This is one of the most commonly held views and is based on a different interpretation of the Hebrew word Rosh (used as a noun rather than adjective), similarities in the pronunciation of words, and the Greek translation of Rosh referring to a tribe of people found in what is now Russia.
5. Indo-European Theory: Gog and Magog include the nations descending from Japheth: Russia, the Caucasus (Turkey), Iraq, and the Islamic republics of Central Asia. The coalition is an alliance of Arab nations, Muslim republics, Georgia, southern Russia and the Black sea area.
These are some of the theories found if you do any research into the prophecies of Ezekiel 38. You may also find interpretations that are a combination of these, and in fact, I tend to find more evidence for a version of the Indo-European and Caucaus Theory.
Before looking at the participants of this invasion in more detail, it's important to understand that the war described in Ezekiel 38 is not the same as the war that will come at the end of the tribulation when Jesus returns to defeat the Antichrist and establish his millennial kingdom. How do we know this? The war at the end of the tribulation, known as Armageddon, is a world war. Revelation tells us that this battle will involve all nations. The war described in Ezekiel includes specific nations that invade Israel. Also, Armageddon is at the climax of the tribulation, while the war described in Ezekiel comes well before then.
Ezekiel 38:1-7 gives 10 names as participants in the invasion of Israel that will follow the regathering of the Jews to their homeland. First mentioned, is the land of Magog. The most common identity for Magog is in Central Asia. The Jewish historian Josephus said, "Magog founded the Magogians, called Scythians by the Greeks. Scythians were a nomadic tribe who inhabited the ancient territory from Central Asia across the southern part of ancient Russia." Today this area is inhabited by the former Soviet Republics of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and possibly northern parts of Afghanistan. All of these nations that make up the land of Magog have one thing in common - Islam.
Militant Islam has been on the rise in these countries since the fall of the Soviet Union, when Islam no longer had to be practiced secretly. Radical Islamic groups such as the Islamic Renaissance Party, the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, and Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islam are working to reunite central Asian nations and ultimately the entire Muslim world. It is from this part of the world that a leader will arise to bring together a great coalition of nations to invade Israel.
Meshech and Tubal in verses 2 and 6, were the names of the 6th and 5th sons of Japheth, the son of Noah (Gen. 10:2). Ezekiel 27:13 also mentions Meshech and Tubal as trading partners with Tyre (Modern Lebanon). It's likely that Meshech and Tubal refer to the ancient Moshi/Mushki and Tubalu/Tibareni who dwelled in the area around, primarily south of, the Black and Caspian Sea in Ezekiel's day. Today these nations would be in the modern country of Turkey, parts of Southern Russia and Northern Iran; all areas with a Muslim majority.
Verse 6 adds Gomer and Beth-Togarmah to the coalition. "Gomer" was the first son of Japheth. The Gomerites were the ancient Cimmerians, expelled in 700 B.C. from the southern steppes of Russia into what is today Turkey. "Togarmah" is the 3rd son of Gomer and beth at the beginning of the name is the Hebrew word for 'house' or 'place of.' In Ezekiel's time there was a city in Cappodocia (Modern Turkey) known as Tegarma, Tagarma, Til-garimmu, and Takarama. The possibility that four of the names mentioned in Ezekiel are now in Turkey makes a pretty strong argument for Turkey being a part of the invasion of Israel. Current circumstances in that country also lend this view some credibility. Since the break-up of the Soviet Union, Turkey has been gaining inroads into Central Asia (Magog). It is also linked to Central Asia both ethnically and linguistically, and has a growing number of political parties that support opposition to Israel, establishment of a Turkish Islamic Republic, and the worldwide rule of Islam.
Verse 5 brings three more names into the mix. God tells us that "Persia, Cush and Put will be with them." Persia is a pretty easy one. In 539 B.C. the Persians conquered the city of Babylon. You only need look at a map of the ancient Persian Empire to see that it was centered in the nation known today as Iran. In fact Iran was called Persia until 1935 when it was changed to Iran and then to the Islamic Republic of Iran in 1979 during the Iranian Revolution. It's no secret that Iran is an arch-enemy of Israel and the West, and a supporter of the Palestinians. They are actively working to get other Arab countries to change camps in their cooperation with the U.S. and Israel.
The ancient kingdom of Cush in Ezekiel's time was the land just south of Egypt on the Nile River. Today this land is occupied by Sudan. Sudan is home to the National Islamic Front, is ruled by an Islamic military dictatorship, a strong supporter of Iraq, home to Osama bin Laden from 1991-1996, and harbors countless Islamic terrorist groups. Sudan would easily fit into the coalition as it is already close allies with Iran, trading military supplies for docking rights on the Red Sea shipping routes.
Ancient Put was the land just west of Egypt, or what is today Libya. Libya is another sponsor of terrorism, and openly refuses to recognize Israel's right to even exist. When the coalition against Israel is formed, Libya won't have to be asked twice to join. Verse 6 adds "and many people with you." The nations listed specifically are all somewhat distant from Israel. By adding "and many people with you" God may have been indicating that those nations and peoples in closer proximity to Israel will join the Jihad. Other nations that might join the alliance are Iraq, Syria, Jorda+n, and Egypt. All of them are Islamic nations, and all of them would not hesitate to support the destruction of Israel were the opportunity to join such a vast coalition presented to them.
The reasons God gives us for the enemies' invasion of Israel are further proof that the attack will be an Islamic invasion. The first reason God gives for the invasion in Ezekiel 38 is a desire by the coalition to cover the Jewish land and wipe them off the face of the earth. Urged on by a hatred of the Jewish people they will seek to destroy them and the nation of Israel. This is the stated goal today of almost every Islamic nation in the Middle East. The only nations not currently in a declared state of war with Israel are Egypt, Turkey, and Jordan, yet they would certainly be glad to see Israel eliminated if presented with a willing leader and an opportunity to rid the Middle East of Islam's archenemy.
God tells us that they also come to "seize plunder …and to capture great spoil." Many verses in the Quran advocated plundering for the benefit of Islam and there are several instances of this war tactic throughout the history of Muhammad's life. In fact, it is a common theme in his teachings. This invasion of Israel and attack on the Jewish people will indeed be a Jihad, but it will also be the final Jihad.
Ezekiel 38:13 Sheba, and Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish, with all the young lions thereof, shall say unto thee, Art thou come to take a spoil? hast thou gathered thy company to take a prey? to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to take a great spoil?
As this invasion develops, a few countries will make a lame protest. This isn't hard to believe when you look at the indifference most nations display as Israel is repeatedly attacked by terrorists. The specific nations who question Gog's actions are "Sheba and Dedan and the merchants of Tarshish." Sheba and Dedan are not hard to identify. These were ancient names for what is known today as Saudi Arabia.
Tarshish is most commonly agreed to be ancient Tartessus or the area of present day Spain in Western Europe. In Ezekiel’s day, Tarshish was in the farthest west regions of the known world. By referring to Tarshish and all her merchants, Ezekiel could have been indicating that Western Europe will join with Saudi Arabia in denouncing the invasion. Interestingly, Saudi Arabia is the only Arab nation to consistently side with the West against radical Islamic elements around the world. The royals of Saudi Arabia mostly side with the West out of an interest in self preservation, and at times oppose us behind the scenes, but they would most probably put on a show of opposition to radical Islam in order to maintain the support of western governments.
A similar alliance has been seen once before during the Gulf War of the early 1990's. The U.S., Western Europe, and Saudi Arabia were allied against Iraq, while Russia, Iran, Sudan, Libya, and most other Middle East nations either aligned with Iraq, or against the U.S. either by directly opposing it, or by remaining neutral. The good news is that God wins. God will come against the invaders Himself and destroy them. Verses 19-20 say that there will be an earthquake so great that people all over the world will tremble. In the ensuing chaos, nations will begin to turn on each other.
Verse 22 of Ezekiel tells us that there will be plagues, torrents of rain, hailstones, and burning sulfur. Just as God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, he will destroy these invading forces. Once again, God will make it known to all the nations that He is the Lord. He will give the nations proof that He is the Holy One in Israel. This war against Israel will pave the way for the Antichrist's military rule over the world and his demand that the world worship him as God. With Islam defeated and the Christian Church raptured, opposition to worshipping a man as God will be greatly reduced. Those who are left would have no army with which to mount much of a protest.
But I will remove far off from you the northern army, and will drive him into a land barren and desolate, with his face toward the east sea, and his hinder part toward the utmost sea, and his stink shall come up, and his ill savour shall come up, because he hath done great things. Fear not, O land; be glad and rejoice: for the LORD will do great things (Joel 2:20-21).
...Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal: And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords: Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet: Gomer, and all his bands; the house of Togarmah of the north quarters, and all his bands: and many people with thee. Be thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard unto them. After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel...(Ezek: 38:3-8).
