"VERY COMFORTABLE WITH THE VATICAN"
SAYS GRAHAM
In a January 1997 interview with Larry King, Graham said that he has wonderful fellowship with Rome, is comfortable with the Vatican, and agrees with the Pope on almost everything.
KING: What do you think of the other [churches] ... like Mormonism? Catholicism? Other faiths within the Christian concept?
GRAHAM: Oh, I think I have a wonderful fellowship with all of them.
KING: You’re comfortable with Salt Lake City. You’re comfortable with the Vatican?
GRAHAM: I am very comfortable with the Vatican. I have been to see the Pope several times. In fact, the night — the day that he was inaugurated, made Pope, I was preaching in his cathedral in Krakow. I was his guest ... [and] when he was over here ... in Columbia, South Carolina ... he invited me on the platform to speak with him. I would give one talk, and he would give the other ... but I was two-thirds of the way to China...
KING: You like this Pope?
GRAHAM: I like him very much. ... He and I agree on almost everything.
Many people already know that Graham has completely embraced the Catholic Pope, John Paul II, as a great Christian leader and his nomination for "the man of the century." The truth is this same Pope is not even saved, as he has blasphemed the truth of the Gospel by embracing every religious heresy from Kali the Hindu death goddess to the voodoo worshipers of Benin, West Africa. Because the False Prophet described in the book of Revelation embraces and leads the world to the following of the Antichrist, anyone that validates the False Prophet is just another false prophet. Dr. Billy Graham has plainly demonstrated his true spiritual character with his ecumenical agenda. That powerful, and largely hidden agenda is carefully documented for anyone that cares enough about the truth to seek it out.
Dr. Graham said that Pope John Paul II's visit to the United States in 1979, "could start a new wave of spiritual revival in our nation which we desperately need. In the short time he has been pope, John Paul II has become the moral leader of the world. My prayers and the prayers of countless other Protestants will be with him as he makes his journey. His uncompromising moral stand and his warm human personality have won the admiration of many from different religious backgrounds and his visit will be of great significance for all Americans as well as the world." All Popes preach a false gospel, how could Pope John Paul possibly start a "genuine spiritual revival?"
Following Pope John Paul II's visit, Graham praised the Pope as a "statesman, a pastor, and an evangelist." Graham said that the Pope was "pointing people to Christ," and he called John Paul II "the greatest religious leader of the modern world." Graham gave not one word of warning about the false gospel Roman Catholicism and the Pope preach - not one warning about the continuing efforts of Romanism toward spiritual and political control of the world!
ABSURD HERESY
Billy Graham has recommended a biography of Pope Paul VI which encouraged "devotion to Mary, the Saints, worship of the wafer at the Mass, and trust in the sacraments for salvation." He called the book "a classic in devotion."" Having visited Pope John Paul II several times, Graham calls him "the world's greatest evangelist"" and says that any differences in their theology "are not important as far as personal salvation is concerned." Tell that to the millions who died at the hands of Rome because of very real differences that Graham now denies! On the Phil Donahue Show, Billy Graham praised the Pope as "a moral and spiritual leader" that the American people could look up to and said, "Thank God, I've got somebody to quote now with some real authority."
MORE HERESY
BILLY GRAHAM BELIEVES THE LATE POPE JOHN PAUL II SURELY WENT TO HEAVEN
On Larry King Live April 2, 2005, Billy Graham said the late Pope was “the most influential voice for morality and peace in the world in the last 100 years.” When Larry King asked, “There is no question in your mind that he is with God now?” Graham replied: “Oh, no. There may be a question about my own, but I don't think Cardinal Wojtyla, or the Pope -- I think he’s with the Lord, because he believed. He believed in the cross. That was his focus throughout his ministry, the cross, no matter if you were talking to him from personal issue or an ethical problem, he felt that there was the answer to all of our problems, the cross and the resurrection. And he was a strong believer.”
This is a most amazing statement by the man who is considered the world’s foremost evangelist. Graham expresses less than certainty about his own salvation but complete certainty about the Pope’s, even though he preached a false gospel of grace mixed with works and sacraments and put his trust in Mary as his intercessor. Graham should know that John Paul II did not believe in the cross in any scriptural sense. Rather he believed in the cross PLUS baptism PLUS the mass PLUS confession to a priest PLUS the saints, and above all PLUS Mary. “And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work” (Rom. 11:6). “I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel” (Gal. 1:6).
ABSOLUTELY HERESY
The following quote is from an article written in October of 1961 after Graham gave an interview to Lutheran clergyman Wilfred Bockelman, who was then the associate editor of The Lutheran Standard: "I do believe that something happens at the baptism of an infant, particularly if the parents are Christians and teach their children Christian truths from childhood. We cannot fully understand the mysteries of God, but I believe a miracle can happen in these children so that they are regenerated, that is, made Christians through infant baptism. If you want to call that baptismal regeneration, that's all right with me" (10/10/61, The Lutheran Standard).
LUDICROUS HERESY
Billy Graham's Muslim Belief Of Heaven
On CNN's "Larry King Live" television broadcast, King interviewed Graham for a full hour on Christmas Day, 1998.
KING: All right. You'll meet Jesus and then what will it be like? What will paradise be like?
GRAHAM: It's going to be like paradise. It'll be the -- everything that you ever wanted for happiness will be there. People say that the Bible teaches there's no sex in Heaven. If sex is necessary for our happiness and fulfillment, it'll be there (a harem like Muslims believe). And then, if certain other things that we think are pleasurable will -- it'll be there.
Graham, A False Prophet On His Way To Hell,
Knows His True Destiny
During an interview with Fox News on January 2nd, 2000, interviewer Tony Snow asked Billy Graham "When you get to Heaven, who's going to speak first, you or God?" Graham replied: "When I get there, I'm sure that Jesus is going to say that he will welcome me. But I think that he's going to say: 'Well done, our good and faithful servant.' Or he may say: 'You're in the wrong place.'"
In the same interview, Graham claimed he couldn’t state categorically his guarantee of salvation because he claimed "I’m not Mother Theresa!" This is simply an outrageous admission. Mother Theresa was not even a saved Christian. She was on record as categorically stating there were other ways to heaven besides salvation through Jesus Christ. This is simply blasphemous, unbiblical doctrine that is drawn from the well of the False Prophet.
BILLY GRAHAM SAYS HIS GOAL IS NOT
TO LEAD ROMAN CATHOLICS OUT OF CATHOLICISM
In his 1997 autobiography, Just As I Am, Graham said his goal was not to lead people out of Roman Catholicism: “MY GOAL, I ALWAYS MADE CLEAR, WAS NOT TO PREACH AGAINST CATHOLIC BELIEFS OR TO PROSELYTIZE PEOPLE who were already committed to Christ within the Catholic Church. Rather, it was to proclaim the gospel to all those who had never truly committed their lives to Christ” (Graham, Just As I Am, p. 357).
Billy Graham will not hold a crusade in any city which cannot assure him of wide denominational support. Theological liberals do serve on local crusade sponsoring committees and crusade "converts" are referred to apostate churches. It wasn't long before some Catholic leaders spoke approvingly of the Graham crusades, especially when he began referring Catholic "converts" back to their own churches for follow-up. By 1983, Billy Graham was not merely referring crusade decision cards to Roman Catholic churches but in the Orlando, Florida Crusade, 150 Catholic lay people from that area were trained to assist in the follow-up of Catholics who made "decisions." THE FLORIDA CATHOLIC, published in Orlando, Florida, revealed this information, stating that the Catholic lay people had been specially trained by a member of the Graham Team, Mr. Rick Marshall. At Graham's "revivals" Roman Catholic nuns and priests are on his platform, sitting behind him. When he gives his standard invitation to come down to accept Jesus Christ as Savior, he then says, 'And if you are Roman Catholic, I want you to come down to renew your vows.' Don't we know that there is no salvation within Roman Catholic doctrine.
In his 1977 crusade on the campus of Notre Dame University, Graham's invitation certainly confused the gospel: "Many of you want to come tonight and reconfirm your confirmation. You want to reconfirm the decision that you made when you joined the Catholic church." He made a similar appeal for people to "reconfirm their confirmation" at his Milwaukee crusade in August 1978. In Milwaukee, 3500 names of those who went forward were turned over to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese. At Billy Graham's Vancouver, British Columbia crusade in October 1984, David Cline, vice chairman of the organizing committee, had this to say: "If Catholics step forward there will be no attempt to convert them and their names will be given to the Catholic church nearest them."
False churches will use the Graham crusades to retrieve non-practicing Catholics and even to gain proselytes to Romanism. Graham's call to "receive Christ," or "make the step of faith," or "come to Christ tonight," is general enough to allow Catholic leaders to insert their sacramental gospel into it. And the fact that Graham is working with the Catholic churches and never sounds any warnings about Romanism gives people the idea that he accepts their theology. Catholic priests simply teach the inquirers that they are born again at baptism and repeatedly renewed in Christ through all sorts of religious activities -- the mass, family duties, the rosary, even coming forward at evangelistic rallies. (Wilson Ewing, The Assimilation of Evangelist Billy Graham Into the Roman Catholic Church, pp. 38-39)
A pastor who attended a Billy Graham crusade on September 22, 1990, in Nassau Coliseum on Long Island, reported his experience as follows: "I have read often of the compromises of Billy Graham, but doubted some of the stories as exaggerated. Now they have been proven, in my eyes, worse than reported. ... My conclusion is that Billy Graham is making men twofold more the child of hell ... The emphasis was on believing in God, with a little commentary on Jesus Christ, but very little. ... We were told that the way to take care of the sin problem is to 'receive Christ, rededicate your life, or renew your confirmation vows, or whatever you call it in your church.' I could hardly believe my ears. What do confirmation vows have to do with salvation? ... No one could have convinced me of the apostasy of Billy Graham any more than my own experience. ... He even had a Rabbi on the platform to show the unity of the religions. ... Not having competent counselors is bad enough, but then to have led them to believe that a church experience is the same as being born again is the height of apostasy. ... Billy has not compromised, he has gone kaput!" (From The Baptist Lighthouse, reprinted in The Perilous Times, March, 1991.)
Graham's habit of referring back to the Catholic Church can even be documented as far back as 1957! In a 9/21/57 interview with the San Francisco News, Graham said, "Anyone who makes a decision at our meetings is seen later and referred to a local clergyman, Protestant, Catholic, or Jewish.
There you have it!
Billy Graham kneeling and worshiping
the Mass wafer
"This past week I preached in the great Catholic cathedral a funeral sermon for a close friend of mine who was a Catholic, and they had several Bishops and Archbishops to participate. And as I sat there going through the funeral Mass, that was a very beautiful thing, and certainly straight and clear in the gospel. There was a wonderful little priest that would tell me when to stand and when to kneel and what to do." (O Timothy, Vol. 10, Issue 9, 1993, pp. 16-17)
Say What?
In 1961 Graham gave an interview to Lutheran clergyman Wilfred Bockelman, who was then the associate editor of The Lutheran Standard: "I do believe that something happens at the baptism of an infant, particularly if the parents are Christians and teach their children Christian truths from childhood. We cannot fully understand the mysteries of God, but I believe a miracle can happen in these children so that they are regenerated, that is, made Christians through infant baptism. If you want to call that baptismal regeneration, that's all right with me" (10/10/61, The Lutheran Standard).
In 1963 Graham had United Methodist Bishop, Gerald B. Kennedy, as his Los Angeles Crusade Chairman. Kennedy wrote in one of his books (God's Good News, p. 125): "I believe that the testimony of the New Testament taken as a whole is against the doctrine of the deity of Jesus. ..." Yet Graham said of Kennedy, "Bishop Kennedy is one of the ten greatest Christian preachers in America.
In 1973, Graham said that "Mao Tse Tung's Eight Precepts are basically the same as the Ten Commandments. In fact, if we can't have the Ten Commandments read in the schools, I'll settle for Mao's Precepts" (Gothardism Evaluated, 1988, p. 16).
In 1978, Graham said that the US boxer, Mohammed Ali's beliefs in Islam, 'are something we all could believe'."
In 1984: On coming to Vancouver less than a month after the Pope had been there, Graham commented on the Pope's message: "I'll tell you, that was just about as straight an evangelical address as I've ever heard. It was tremendous. Of course, I'm a great admirer of his. He gives moral guidance in a world that seems to have lost its way" (Foundation, Vol. V, Is. 5, 1984).
In 1985, Graham affirmed his belief that those outside of Christ might be saved. Los Angeles reporter David Colker asked Graham: "What about people of other faiths who live good lives but don't profess a belief in Christ?" Graham replied, "I'm going to leave that to the Lord. He'll decide that" (Los Angeles Herald Examiner, 7/22/85). While this answer might appear reasonable to those who do not know the Bible, in reality it is a great compromise of the truth. God has already decided what will happen to those who die outside of faith in Jesus Christ. The book of Ephesians describes the condition of such as "children of wrath" (Eph. 2:3) and "having no hope, and without God in the world" (Eph. 2:12). That is why Christ must be preached. Men without a saving knowledge of Christ are condemned already (John 3:18). There is no mystery or question about this matter, because the Bible has plainly spoken.
1989: Graham spoke about a meeting with Pope John Paul II: "There was a pause in the conversation; suddenly the Pope's arm shot out and he grabbed the lapels of my coat, he pulled me forward within inches of his own face. He fixed his eyes on me and said, 'Listen Graham, we are brothers'" (6/8/89, Today). Graham said that that was a great happening in his life.
LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON
Early in June 1996, Franklin Graham, interviewed on CNBC, declared, "Whether it's the Roman Catholic Church ... the Orthodox Church ...we'd all agree ... it's Jesus Christ who paid the penalty for sin." That statement was tragically deceptive. Could Franklin, like his father, be unaware that Catholicism and Orthodoxy, while using the same Biblical words as evangelicals, mean something else? Franklin Graham told the Indianapolis Star (6/3/99) that his father's longstanding ecumenical alliance with the Catholic Church and all other denominations, "was one of the smartest things his father ever did."
The charismatic Charisma magazine in 10/95 contained a 7-page article on Franklin Graham. They quoted him as saying, "I thank God for the warmth I see within many of the charismatic churches -- their love for the Lord and love for the scriptures. ..." He also said, "Probably (Samaritan's Purse's) largest base of support comes from the charismatic community." He has referred to "Mother" Teresa as "an example of the woman God uses." (4/1/99, Calvary Contender)
Franklin Graham is a chip off the old block, and you may be sure that he will compromise as much or more than his father. Look for little change from the current ecumenical stance of the BGEA once Franklin takes over full time. Franklin Graham does not use his father's word, "crusade," but uses the secular seeker-sensitive word "festival" for his meetings. His 5/99 "festival" at the University of Alabama drew 50,000. The 5/13/99 Alabama Baptist listed some Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) performers, and said "contemporary Christian artist Steven Curtis Chapman had the young people rocking and singing on the coliseum floor..."
